Terrain Trail Runners – Kids Group Trail Runs — Program Outline & Protocol
1. Purpose & Philosophy • These Kids Group Trail Runs are non‐competitive, fun, social outings designed to: • Keep young kids connected to the outdoors • Encourage engagement with the local trail community • Build friendships and confidence • Promote healthy, active lifestyles • Inspire the next generation of trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts • The focus is joy, exploration, and community, not pace or performance. 2. Frequency & Format • Runs will be hosted once a month on Saturdays. • Each session will offer 1–3-mile hike/run options, adjusted based on: • Age range of participating kids • Comfort level • Athletic ability • Trail conditions • Groups may split into shorter/longer options as needed to ensure everyone feels supported. 3. Cost & Participation Requirements • All Kids Group Trail Runs are free. • A parent or adult guardian must attend and remain present for the entire run. • Parents/guardians are fully responsible for their child’s safety and well‐being during the outing. • Open to kids of all ages. Pace groups will be organized based on runners ages 12 and under. Older kids are welcome to join; they may run with the younger groups and help out during the run. 4. Safety & Expectations • Runs will be conducted at a relaxed, inclusive pace. • Adults must ensure their child: • Stays within sight • Has appropriate footwear and clothing • Carries water or snacks if needed • Weather, trail conditions, and group dynamics may influence route selection. • Respect for trails, wildlife, and other park users is expected at all times. Group runs will be posted in the Terrain Trail Runners private Facebook group for now. • If you’re not already in the group, request to join so you have access to all Kids Group Runs, Sunday Group Runs, and other community events. 5. Community Perks • As part of this program, Terrain Trail Runners will offer 50% off any child’s race entry fee when a parent and child choose to participate together in any TTR‐hosted event. 6. Goals for the Future • Build a consistent, supportive community for young trail explorers • Encourage lifelong outdoor habits • Create a welcoming space for families to enjoy trails together • Grow the next wave of trail runners, hikers, and stewards of our parks

Meet Chris Nosal — the heart behind the TTR Kids Group Trail Runs. Chris is a father of four (ages 5–11), an avid trail and ultrarunner, and a deeply rooted member of the St. Louis outdoor community. Whether he’s running local trails, volunteering at races, or coaching youth sports, Chris shows up with enthusiasm, patience, and a genuine love for helping kids grow.
Why Chris is the perfect leader for this program: • He’s run both trail and road events with his kids, giving him firsthand experience in making outdoor adventures fun and accessible. • He actively coaches youth soccer, basketball, and Boy Scouts, bringing a strong foundation in youth engagement and leadership. • He balances the many hats of fatherhood, coaching, and community involvement with a steady commitment to giving back.
