Kids Group Runs
Terrain Trail Runners – Kids Group Trail Runs — Program Outline & Protocol
1. Purpose & Philosophy
• These Kids Group Trail Runs are non‐competitive, fun, social outings designed to:
• Keep young kids connected to the outdoors
• Encourage engagement with the local trail community
• Build friendships and confidence
• Promote healthy, active lifestyles
• Inspire the next generation of trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts
• The focus is joy, exploration, and community, not pace or performance.
2. Frequency & Format
• Runs will be hosted once a month on Saturdays.
• Each session will offer 1–3-mile hike/run options, adjusted based on:
• Age range of participating kids
• Comfort level
• Athletic ability
• Trail conditions
• Groups may split into shorter/longer options as needed to ensure everyone feels supported.
3. Cost & Participation Requirements
• All Kids Group Trail Runs are free.
• A parent or adult guardian must attend and remain present for the entire run.
• Parents/guardians are fully responsible for their child’s safety and well‐being during the outing.
• Open to kids of all ages.
Pace groups will be organized based on runners ages 12 and under. Older kids are welcome to join; they may run with the younger groups and help out during the run.
4. Safety & Expectations
• Runs will be conducted at a relaxed, inclusive pace.
• Adults must ensure their child:
• Stays within sight
• Has appropriate footwear and clothing
• Carries water or snacks if needed
• Weather, trail conditions, and group dynamics may influence route selection.
• Respect for trails, wildlife, and other park users is expected at all times.
Group runs will be posted in the Terrain Trail Runners private Facebook group for now.
• If you’re not already in the group, request to join so you have access to all Kids Group Runs,
Sunday Group Runs, and other community events.
5. Community Perks
• As part of this program, Terrain Trail Runners will offer 50% off any child’s race entry fee when a
parent and child choose to participate together in any TTR‐hosted event.
6. Goals for the Future
• Build a consistent, supportive community for young trail explorers
• Encourage lifelong outdoor habits
• Create a welcoming space for families to enjoy trails together
• Grow the next wave of trail runners, hikers, and stewards of our parks
